Case Studies

Membrane switch, graphic overlay

Case study - Customer feedback.
One of our customers with an application that included an aluminum bezel had to replace units at his customer's locations due to weathering and corrosion of the bezels. We appraised his primer and paint requirements and advised his engineering group on a primer and paint system to reduce the field failures due to these problems. We took a look at the entire product with an eye to improving overall appearance and functionality and worked with the engineering staff to install a dedicated tester for the specific product.

The basis for this case study is that the customer's service staff instead of being analyzed was discarding field failures. Our analysis helped eliminate failures and led to our customer customers being better satisfied.

Case study - Conversion of a hard wired control panel to a membrane switch.
A test equipment manufacturer had a front panel utilizing nine mechanical switches and thirteen LED's that were individually wired. We converted his panel to a membrane switch with embedded LED's and eliminated the need for individually wired devices. The membrane switch was then laminated to an anodized aluminum panel with a four-color overlay of scratch and chemical resistant polyester to give the manufacturer a unit ready to plug in and complete his assembly.

All of our panel assemblies are tested electrically 100% and ready to assemble to your unit. Simplified assembly and cost reduction.

Case study - Static discharge and motor noise.
A manufacturer of compressors and controls had difficulties with control units on oil and gas drilling platforms. High humidity was weakening the adhesives used to construct the front panel and an inadequate ESD shield was allowing motor noise to interfere with the control unit.

Through intensive sampling and testing Sensigraphics developed a bonding method to prevent delamination of the front panel. Replacing the shield with a conductive foil shield that effectively blocked incidental magnetic interference and solved the motor noise problem.

We worked with this client and helped reduce performance and repair issues.

Case study - water intrusion and warranty
A manufacturer of controls for car washes came to us because his vendor offered a warranty on his parts that ended at installation. The parts were exposed to weather and were subject to water intrusion that led to failure.

Sensigraphics engineering developed a double gasketed design that ended the moisture problem. Sensigraphics warranties its products for 12 months our warranty doesn't end when you assemble your product.

Case study - Refurbishing equipment
We have several clients that refurbish laboratory equipment. We can reverse engineer the membrane switch from an older device, create manufacturing drawings schematics and artwork to help refurnished equipment look new.
